The Ehrenreich's garden in Barnstable, MA, which has been featured in Country Garden Magazine, C.L. Fornari's book "A Garden Lover’s Cape Cod", and on New England Dream House, has over 500 roses. Most of these roses are being transplanted to the Carver location where a 1 acre (and possibly larger in the future) rose garden is being built. The new garden will feature a series of garden rooms, each one with a different theme, enclosed in rose covered fences, with a rose covered arbor at the entrance of each room. There will be 6 single color rooms; pink, lavender/purple, white, red, peach/orange and yellow. There will be a room devoted to bicolor and multicolored roses and a room of single (5 petal) roses. The central and most elegant room will be the English Rose room. And finally, rooms featuring one class of older roses - i.e. Polyanthas, Hybrid Perpetuals, Bourbons, Damasks, Gallicas, Albas, Centifolias, Chinas, Teas, Ramblers and Species. The garden borders the pond at Edaville with Rugosa species and hybrids at the water's edge. The Edaville Railroad will pass between the garden and the nursery providing a beautiful display for the passengers.
Below are photos of the Barnstable garden and the new garden being built by Irwin and Cindy Ehrenreich with a little help from their son, Matthew. As the garden progresses, more photos will be added. Click on each photo to enlarge it.
